Love Our Lake
Lake Awoonga

The quiet, picturesque Lake Awoonga takes you only 25-30 minutes out of Gladstone. Lake Awoonga is a beautiful location at any time of the year. For your next birthday party, camping adventure or relaxing day out, we recommend Lake Awoonga as a top spot in the Gladstone Region. The cooler months are generally quieter than the warmer months. The best thing about visiting the lake in the cooler months is that our autumn and winter usually reach the low to mid 20s, so you can still comfortably canoe or kayak and a splash of water is not ice cold. The difference with Lake Awoonga compared to lakes overseas, is that the water temperature is always bearable. Have you ever watched a movie about summer camp set by a lake or a movie set by a frozen lake in the winter? We are so fortunate in the Gladstone Region that we never have to battle icy roads and falling snow so all year round feels like summer camp at Lake Awoonga!

Lake Awoonga has barbecues, picnic shelters, toilets, playground for the kids and many spacious grassy areas. There is also drinking water available. Drinking water and non- drinking water taps are clearly marked with signs.

Explore the lake via boat, kayak and canoe or via foot. There are walking tracks and the road also takes you along to lookouts of the lake. Fish by the lake with your rod or from your boat. Be ready to spot lots of wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies and various bird species. The Lake Awoonga Caravan Park or the Boynedale Bush Camp (located on the other side of the lake) are designated camping spots so if you don’t want to go home, you can stay longer!

Host your next birthday party at the lake
• Play some lake games in the water
• Little kids can play “Duck, Duck, Goose” in a circle on the grass, “Hide the Egg” and
“Pass the Parcel”.
• Try some old fashioned lawn games like Bocce, ring toss or kick around a soccer ball
• Teach the kids how to hook in a fish
