Gladstone Region – Parks By The Water
The cruise ships have been a highlight in the Gladstone Region this year and there are many more to come!
There are some beautiful vantage points where you can view the cruise ships. These include William Golding Memorial Lookout (Auckland Hill), East Shores, Spinnaker Park and also if you are looking out at the ocean from Tannum Sands and surrounding beaches.
Even when the cruise ships aren’t docked in the Gladstone Harbour, there are plenty of other reasons to visit our local parks by the water.
Did you know that Spinnaker Park across from the Gladstone Marina has wide enough paths where you can walk along with a couple of prams for a side-by-side chat with friends and family? Your kids can even ride their bikes and scooters. There’s plenty of undercover shelters throughout the park so you can have a picnic. There’s also a little beach cove.

When the cruise ship was last in, I took a drive down to Barney Point Park, where that day, the water was clear and there were some people safely paddling in the water. Surf Lifesaving QLD note on their website that “it is Gladstone’s closest beach; great for a picnic in a well laid-out and attractive park, but just to check the clarity of the water before swimming.” The park has undercover areas and benches where you can sit or bring your own chairs and a picnic rug. Pack some snacks to enjoy and let the kids play on the playground. Public barbecues are available so it’s a great spot to host a barbecue with family and friends.
